APS Polish Studies Fundraising Committee members were given the rare opportunity to meet with the US Polish Ambassador, Robert Kupiecki, Embassy of the Republic of Poland, Washington, DC and Dr. Grzegorz Kozłowski, Chief of Economic Section, Embassy of the Republic of Poland, visiting Texas this week.  Ambassador Kupiecki came to meet with UT-Austin faculty and state leadership in Austin and Honorary Polish Consul, Dr. Zbigniew Wojciechowski, Polonia members and business representatives in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Tadeusz Patzek, Professor and Chair, Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering (PGE) at UT-Austin invited APS Polish Studies Fundraising Committee (PSFC) members, to join faculty from the PGE at a luncheon and a presentation.  Afterwards, Ambassador Kupiecki spoke with APS representatives on strategies for raising funds to maintain Polish Studies at UT-Austin.  Ambassador Kupiecki and Dr. Grzegorz Kozłowski, advised the PSFC to make plans for a cultural event that the Washington DC Polish Embassy is committed to host in the near future. This cultural event and others in Austin and in Los Angeles, will serve as fundraisers for Polish Studies at UT-Austin.  The PSFC is honored with the Ambassador’s offer to assist Polish Studies. In addition, Ambassador Kupiecki agreed to serve as Honorary Member of the PSFC.

The PSFC is presently working with Dr. Mary Neuburger and Dr. Tadeusz Patzek to make plans for this event.  APS is privileged to be included in this opportunity and we thank among others, Dr. Wojciechowski, who originally made the Ambassador aware of our concerns regarding the elimination of Polish Studies at UT-Austin.

Members of the PSFC include:  Mary Gawron, Art Gmurowski, Gosia Jurczynska, Mark Peczeniuk, Mary Neuburger, Tadeusz Patzek, Joanna Patzek, Agnes Sekowski, Zbigniew Wojciechowski, and Honorary Member, Ambassador Robert Kupiecki.
